Church Public House

CSB was approached by the owners of Church Public House in Park City, Utah to help design their large restaurant bar. There were only a couple months before opening so we had to move fast. We ganged up with Andre Beecher of Meld Design to help us knock it out.

We proposed dividing the 4 main rooms into 4 broad themes from the Old Testament, cheekily playing on the "Church" name. Here is our proposed idea for "The Garden", the kitchen/bar/dining area dedicated to carnality, the treasures of the natural world and sensuality. And what would the garden be without a snake?
As the story goes, those cast out of the Garden for over-indulging find themselves in  "The Wilderness". This adjoining room is a dark, rich lounge space with the theme of darkened winter forest, so far from the pleasures of the Garden.
We enlarged photos of winter forests, printed them on huge rolls of paper wall paper, then deconstructed the idea by tearing them up and creating this chilly tableau.

After a life well lived or misspent, one is really only left with two destinations. Here Andrea Beecher's mood board explores one of them, Heaven. The high, sunlit atrium space upstairs at Church Public House was the ideal spot for a classic American church vibe. A place to spend what seems like a pleasant eternity dining with family and friends among the clouds.
And the other destination is likely the more fun of the two, "HELL". Like the belief in suck ideas, this room is black and white, emphasis on black. The rich black Victorian bar, the black wainscot and furnishings show in Andrea Beecher's mood board or punctuated by brass details. The dominant element of the room however is the bold wallpaper art.
We vectorized the works of 15th century German religious crazy person Albrecht Durer. His visions of apocalypse, Revelations and torment are the perfect backdrop for pondering one's life decisions. Like the forest murals in "The Wilderness", this is a torn paper collage of maddening detail and disorder.
